Barts Hospital

Early in March 2009 I visited St Bartholomew’s Hospital (Bart's) where Edie trained between October 1900 and October 1904 and was able to track down some information about her time there.

The archivists were very helpful and dug out the relevant volume of the Matron's Register of Probationers.  Since the visit they have kindly sent me a copy of Edie's page. It seems she progressed from 'Good' to 'Very Good' which is not the least bit surprising.  However, I would love to know what the sense of 'Quite' is in the final entry!

This page is a copy from the Matron's Register of Probationers and is included here Courtesy of St Bartholomew's Hospital Archives.  This version has been sharpened up from the original to make it more easily legible.

Click on the image to view a larger version. When you get to it, you may need to click on that one again to see the larger copy.

Update 8 November 2010: There's a nice picture of Edie in what we think is her Barts uniform at the top of Volume 3 of the diaries.  Click here to see it.
